OCTOPUS Newsroom plug-in, as a part of OCTOPUS6 NRCS, offers advanced features with real flexibility.

The OCTOPUS NLE Plug-in module allows the newsroom to fully integrate Apple Final Cut and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 into the OCTOPUS workflow.

By using the placeholder concept, the whole process from creating the story to on-air playout is simple. All video clips available in the OCTOPUS system are viewable and searchable within the OCTOPUS plug-in, regardless of whether they are already in a rundown or saved to story pool folder. Clip metadata is sent via standard MOS protocol.

While editing the video footage in OCTOPUS6 plug-in users can have full access to OCTOPUS stories and scripts, allowing simultaneous editing of video and text on one screen. Full read/write access can be granted according to user rights and therefore the script can not only be viewed for recording voiceovers, but also modified if the text needs to be changed or a lower third added.

Reporters can make a simple selection of raw material from any OCTOPUS client machine with the option to browse a low-res copy. It is also possible to browse the raw footage attached as a story asset in the OCTOPUS6 client.

When the clip is rendered and saved, the automation system links it with an OCTOPUS clip placeholder which may already be included in the rundown. The placeholder in OCTOPUS is updated with the actual duration of the clip and a lowres copy is generated. The rundown producers can now browse the edited package and rundown timing is up to date.
