All the features available in OCTOPUS5 are present in the cross-platform version, OCTOPUS6, as well. In addition to these, analysis in cooperation with key newsroom users has led to numerous new functions and many minor improvements.

GUI

Tabs - Besides opening multiple pages in a split-screen mode, OCTOPUS6 also previews items in multiple tabs on one screen.

Inline data editing - Just like in a spreadsheet, data in OCTOPUS6 lists may be modified directly. Without dialog windows.

Favourites - menu of frequently used menu items accessible by a single click may be defined

Well-known key shortcuts - keyboard shortcuts to actions known from other, widely used applications are available in OCTOPUS6. Should the shortcuts be uncomfortable, they may be customised.

Editorial

Spell check - OCTOPUS6 checks the spelling in scripts as the text is being typed.

Word blacklist - A list of inappropriate words may be loaded into the dictionary. OCTOPUS6 notifies a journalist when such a word has been typed.

Undo/Redo - using shortcut-keys, journalists can easily undo recent changes in the script

Mouse-free script - actions for new CGs, MOS Objects, tags, notes, etc. are invokable using the keyboard

Rundown stopwatch - Rundown timing is more precise with two sets of clock present. One set counts up, down and shows the difference between the scheduled and real duration of the rundown, second clock does the same for each particular story.

Rundown time markers - Slugs delimiting rundown into blocks may be inserted and assigned scheduled duration. Difference between scheduled duration of the block and the overall real duration of stories in the block is displayed.

Enterprise

Any platform - OCTOPUS6 runs natively on Windows, MacOS and/or Linux

Seamless load-balancing - Any number of application servers may be used simultaneously. According to level of their load, users are connected evenly to all of them to maximize system performance.

Automatic fail-over - Should any of the servers fail - application or database - their redundant copy automatically takes over.
