OCTOPUS6 is a platform-independent newsroom computer system enhancing the key strengths of OCTOPUS5. It brings the convenience of the OCTOPUS newsroom system to MacOS and Linux users. In Windows, OCTOPUS6 performs better and more intuitively than the previous version.

Any operating system

Is your environment Windows, Mac, or Linux? Or a mix of any of these? It doesn't make any difference anymore. OCTOPUS6 is platform independent. It runs on multiple platforms simultaneously, reaching free operating systems as well as Apple Final Cut.

Works the way you're used to

Various key-shortcuts and procedures for actions known from other applications are now available in your newsroom computer system. There is no need to check the manual for shortcuts –they’re the same as elsewhere.

Less popup windows

In OCTOPUS6 you don't have to open a dialog window for every single data update. Inline editing lets you edit the data cell directly in the list and save precious seconds.

Sticky preferences

Every change done in OCTOPUS6 is seamlessly remembered with the user profile. There's no need to think of saving your profile or layout when you're leaving. Everything stays as it was when you start OCTOPUS again.

Single-tap search

Searching and filtering data are the most used functions in newsroom. Why not make them easier? Whenever you're viewing the data, simply start typing your search-word. The word is automatically located in the list of data and pressing next takes you to relevant lines further down the list. Even in rundowns.

Flexible views

Don't like what administrators have pre-set? Define your own views. Flip the columns, resize them, make them fit. The way you want it.

Tabs keep desktop organised

OCTOPUS6 features tabs. A convenient, popular way of opening multiple information pages on one screen, without taking up extra space. Are you doing research for your story? Feel free to open all relevant results in the tabbed area. Use pieces of information from each tab to write your script in another split-window.

Script, a mouse-free area

Reaching out for the mouse, when finger typing may slow you down. OCTOPUS6 has all the scripting shortcuts at your fingertips. Create a new element, add a CG, link a MOS object, anything you can imagine in the script you can do from the keyboard. For those who prefer, mouse control is still available.

Rundown buddy

Rundown buddy is a small window in the rundown, giving you a second view on stories in the rundown. Want to see what material is not ready yet? Want to check all the graphics? Want to see skipped stories only? Call up your buddy and make it show you only the stories you’re interested in.

Time markers

OCTOPUS6 introduces rundown time markers. Special slug lines in rundown determine rundown blocks that you can easily plan duration for. Want to hit your commercials on time? Want your sports block to take the same space everyday? Time markers make it possible.
