India is experiencing a growth in media consumption that is far outstripping anything in North America and Europe. While audience figures within the sub-continent are accelerating fast, the broader diaspora is contributing to excellent results for Indian-based media organizations.

In this hotbed of television activity, Janam TV with its local and international transmission is actually outstripping the national average, with 15% annual growth. Today, as a result, Janam Multimedia Limited operates eleven entertainment channels, five news channels, four music & entertainment channels and three religious channels. Another seven entertainment and music channels, four news channels, and two further religious channels are proposed to be launched shortly.

The aim of the technical development team was to install a flexible and future-proofed solution to meet the needs of the station owners for the next 10-15 years. As a result, the newly installed studios and operations centre are state of the art, featuring class leading technologies from the likes of Snell and Harmonic.

Working in partnership with system integrator RGB Broadcasting equipment Pvt Ltd, and under the project management of Aditya Krishnan, European developer Octopus installed the latest version of its newsroom solution to enable the broadcaster’s journalists and news management team to produce and deliver world class bulletins.

Janam TV’s newsroom now uses Octopus7 to centralize, manage and utilize multiple incoming wire sources to create accurate and up-to date news stories. The station’s managers have access to Octopus’ news reporting tools to analyse the team’s output, gauge stories for balance and optimize the crew’s journalistic activities.

As a MOS-enabled system, Octopus7 is fully integrated with Janam TV’s studio, live production and playout operation to deliver an intelligently-connected, automated broadcast workflow. The installation includes integration with Autocue teleprompters, VizRT graphics and Pebble Beach Systems playout and automation tools.
