In 2024, Griffin Media began planning the transformation process of updating and creating a new, flexible, and powerful workflow for their two stations, which produce multiple newscasts for KWTV Oklahoma City and KOTV Tulsa. That process culminated in adding Octopus Newsroom to control content, graphics, and control room production, including systems such as Sony ELC and Bitcentral.
Multiple Newscasts and Wall-to-Wall Coverage
Griffin Media has been serving Oklahoma since 1908. Their two TV stations are #1 in both their markets, and they produce more than 100 hours of news production per week. The TV stations are joined by 5 unique and powerful radio stations – all covering news that is important to Oklahomans.
Covering severe weather is the mainstay for KWTV and KOTV, and their news production workflows must be agile and powerful to match their coverage efforts. Octopus was the most flexible choice.

“When we made the decision to move to Octopus Newsroom, I was looking for more than just a new system – I was looking for a true modernization of how our newsroom creates, organizes, and delivers content. Octopus has absolutely delivered.”
Nathan Eliott, KWTV Director of Content

Seamless Integration. Smarter Workflows
The major focus of Griffin’s transformation plan was to take the best parts of their current systems and move into a more efficient, flexible workflow using new technologies that work specifically for them.
According to KWTV Director of Content, Nathan Elliott, “The integration with Bitcentral, Sony ELC, VizRT, and our other third-party partners was seamless, which made implementation far smoother than I anticipated. That kind of compatibility matters when you’re operating in a fast-paced news environment.”
“Working with Scott Fitzgerald on our Octopus rollout brought Griffin Media into the future of newscast producing. The system allows for easily built & customizable rundowns. Scott understood producers can often be creatures of habit, so he did not hesitate to customize additional shortcuts.”
Kristie Webb, News Director of Content at KOTV
KWTV and KOTV now join the growing number of US television stations that are expanding their news content capabilities by partnering with Octopus Newsroom.
